The lyrics may be more simple than you think. I haven’t heard the song, but the lyrics seem like she is talking about real love and infatuation, one where she beleives she is really in love, despite critics who want to discount it as “puppy love”. The phrase “falling in love” comes to mind as “the gentle fall”. And it seems to hurt the speaker that she can’t call it love due to society’s ideas of who can be in love and what love is, and what should be taken seriously.

But, i think your interpretation is very interesting in what it says about YOU. =)
